For some reason, I seem to get myself into situations where I am in really cool locations for very short amounts of time. Stephen and I drove up to Seattle for the 4th of July and had one day to spend in Seattle. So, being my hometown I preceded to come up with a list of all the things we had to do while we were there. Showing your boyfriend your home town is no simple feat after all.
So with the list in hand and a full tank of gas, the day began.
Ever since I was little my parents have taken me to the Frye Art Museum on Capital Hill. It’s a small gallery that has been free to public and has always had really interesting traveling exhibits and a beautiful collection of artwork from the 1700s and 1800s. Some of my favorite pieces of art find their home here. If you’re in the Seattle area and want to find a cool gallery that’s off the beaten track this one if for you. From Capital Hill we meandered down to the waterfront. As a born and bred Seattlite, I know the waterfront is a little touristy, but I LOVE it. By far, it’s one of my favorite parts of the city. It has my favorite store, one of my favorite eateries and the best views of the city. We stopped at the original Ivars for fish and chips and claim chowder in a bread bowl.
A new discovery: there is a seagull feeding area RIGHT NEXT TO IVARS. I about died from how awesome it was. I could write an essay about those seagulls.
We made a friend. 🙂
We then went to Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe, because no trip to Seattle is complete without it! We got fudge to go and walked up and down the waterfront a bit.
Our next stop was the Olympic Sculpture Garden. Commissioned by the Seattle Art Museum, the garden is a beautiful outdoor park, with walkways right down to the beach, views of the waterfront and incredible sculptures.
Finally we ended up at the Seattle Center, where the Pacific Science Center, the Experience Music Project, the Space Needle, and Key Arena are all located. We debated the idea of going up the Space Needle or seeing an IMAX movie at the Pacific Science Center but ended up taking a nap on the lawn.
I’m still totally amazed by how much we fit into one day.
If you want to see Seattle in one day there is so much to see and do. I wasn’t able to fit in everything on my list, but these were the highlights and my absolute favorite places in the city.
